Thanks to everyone who donated items, participated and purchased items at PHRMA's 7th Annual Auction "60 Years Strong and Still Paving New Avenues" held on November 13, 2007. Through your generosity we were able to raise over $13,000, breaking our record from last year.
Proceeds from the auction benefited New Avenues for Youth's PAVE program which serves approximately 500 homeless and at-risk young people per year and offers a variety of classes, activities, workshops and service learning projects to prepare them for the world of work. This program gives youth vast opportunities to improve themselves and build critical employment skills, while introducing them to internships, jobs, scholarships and mentoring programs around the city and the state.
The money raised during the PHRMA auction will be used toward critical program needs, including the PAVE client assistance fund, which enables New Avenues to support many young people who may not otherwise be eligible for New Avenues' services. PHRMA funds will, in part, enable New Avenues to purchase bus tickets that will allow these youth to access public transportation to get to and from job readiness training, as well as to travel to job interviews. The majority of youth who access this program do not have the money to purchase professional attire, and often lack the appropriate clothing to wear to job interviews. Support will also enable youth to purchase interview outfits, increasing their confidence level and chance at being hired.
PHRMA Committee members Margaret McCarthy, Corrie Pierce and Teresa Wachsmuth are seen in the photograph presenting a check to New Avenues for Youth's Board.
